Perris, CA – (Unincorporated area of Good Hope) Friday, December 01, 2017 at about 2:30 p.m. a large vehicle struck a powerline at Highway 74 and Betty Rd, shearing the line off a pole and igniting a vegetation fire. The downed wire also caused a power outage to homes and other structures in the immediate area.

Firefighters with CalFire and Riverside County Fire Departments responded to the scene on calls of a brush fire. The first arriving engine located the downed powerline and a field that had caught fire.

According to CalFire Battalion Chief Ty Davis, about half an acre of vegetation was burned by the fire. Firefighters were able to contain the fire shortly after their arrival.

Southern California Edison was on scene repairing the powerline and restoring power to the area.

It was reported that the vehicle that struck the powerline continued eastbound on Highway 74 and stopped a few miles down the road and waited for officers with the California Highway Patrol.
