POMONA, CA – The Pomona Police Department and the family of Maximiliano Avila, 33 need the public’s help in identifying the driver of a white in color 1995 Toyota Camry that collided with a green Toyota 4Runner causing the death of Maximiliano.
The fatal crash took place at the intersection of W. Orange Grove Ave. and Lewis St. back on August 06, 2011 between 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m.
According to reports and unidentified witnesses at the scene, the Camry was driven by a male only described as being 5’.9” medium built with black spiky short hair and who went by the nicknames “Serk” and “Green Eyes”. After the crash, the driver remained momentarily however, he left the scene on foot moments later possibly eastbound on W. Orange Grove Ave.
The Camry appeared to travel westbound on W. Orange Grove Ave. when it collided with the 4Runner that traveled eastbound in which Maximiliano traveled as a passenger. Upon impact, the 4Runner landed at the northwest corner of Lewis St. by a fire hydrant damaging it and releasing large amounts of water.
Two minors, a male and a female were also occupants in the Camry and remained at the scene. The Camry was said to be registered to a Jessica who resided on West Monterey Ave. in Pomona and was not in the vehicle during the incident.
According to the investigation at that time, it revealed that prior to the incident the occupants in the Camry had left a party that had taken place near S. Hamilton Blvd. and W. 3rd St. and that the party had been shut down by Officers with the Pomona Police Gang Unit. No other details were readily available and the investigation is ongoing.
The driver of the Camry is still at large and is sought for questioning.
