Colton, CA – Wednesday, August 01, 2018 just after 3:30 a.m. Officers with the California Highway Patrol, Fire Fighters with Colton Fire and Paramedics with American Medical Response (AMR) responded to a two vehicle accident in which one of them carrying two occupants caught on fire.
The accident took place from the EB I-10 Freeway transition to the SB I-215 freeway, a white in color vehicle was rear ended and it careened to the right shoulder striking and knocking down a large metal light pole catching on fire upon that impact.Several Good Samaritan’s stopped to help extricate the trapped men as the vehicle was
engulfed in flames.
Two Good Samaritan's used a fire extinguisher in an attempt to turn it off as another used a shovel to scoop up dirt on the flames.
The quick actions of those Samaritans and other Samaritans together with the actions of the responding CHP Officers saved the trapped men at the scene from getting burned.
One of the occupants wearing a black shirt had a large cut on his head. Both were transported to a local hospital for further treatment and evaluation.
Traffic merging from the west bound I-10 freeway was diverted over the gore point.
